Program Steps
The following is a list of steps for our program.
1. Download and fill out the Patient Packet or contact us to mail you a packet (1-800-599-8010 or 405-360-7100).
2. Completely fill out your packet, keep it, and call us to schedule a seminar. You will bring your packet with you.
3. Be sure to bring your packet and insurance information to your scheduled seminar.
4. After attending the seminar we will contact your insurance for approval or work with you on financing options.
5. At this point you will be scheduled for a consultation with one of our surgeons. From there you will be introduced to the "BIG 4" and scheduled for the following consultations/tests:
- Psychology Consultation: In general, the purpose of the pre-surgical psychological evaluation is to determine if the patient is emotionally and intellectually prepared for the major life changes brought about by bariatric surgery.
- Dietetic Consultation: The purpose of this evaluation is to assess current eating habits and to educate on pre op and post op nutrition. Good nutrition is necessary for a successful surgery. The patient will learn how to use their new “tool” to lose weight and prevent nutrient deficiencies and related complications.
- Physical Performance: The purpose of this evaluation is to assess your physical ability and to create a personalized program for each individual patient. The program will educate the patient on preoperative and postoperative exercises to enable the patient to lose fat and retain muscle tone.
- Pulmonary Function Test: The purpose of this evaluation is to evaluate the patient’s lung capacity. The patient will be educated on using a spirometer preoperatively to help avoid pulmonary complications after surgery.
6. It is occassionally necessary for some patients to see a specialist such as a pulmonologist or cardiologist prior to surgery at the physician's discretion.
7. Following the completion of the above steps, we will then schedule you for:
- Pre op orientation at Norman Regional Hospital
- Pre op diet consultation for your 10 day diet
- Pre op discussion with Dr. Keith or Winter Bathe, P.A.
8. Follow up appointments occur at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 9 months and 1 year. Follow ups will continue yearly for five years.
